19 Weeks!

I've really been slacking in my Aryn posts! Reason being, to be completely honest, I'm exhausted. While I'm on the verge of getting answers, things are still working towards being fixed but that means that they are not fixed yet. And what does that mean?

No sleep for mommy.

I've even come to see insomnia, which is a first. The other night I was up from 1:35am - 6:30am. The last night the only way I could fall asleep was to take a Tylenol.

Needless to say, I'm beyond exhausted.

Aryn wakes up beginning at 11-or-so-pm screaming - for reasons I have NO idea. Then she'll sleep until whenever - anytime between 1-5am. It can be a good 6-hour sleep or a quick 2-hour nap. Sometimes she wakes up because she kicks those darn legs so hard that she comes unswaddled, and sometimes she just wakes up. The only way I've discovered to put her back to sleep is by feeding her.

Last week, I made an appointment at a breastfeeding clinic because I was, basically, desperate for help. I saw the doctor and explained to her what's going on. They weighed Aryn naked, then with the diaper on, then after we ate. Aryn ate 100 mg - which apparently is not enough. The doctor showed me this new way to feed her, where Aryn basically straddling me, sitting upright. It's kind of awkward, but when we were there, she didn't throw up at ALL (she normally throws up for HOURS after she eats, and eats every 2 hours because of it).

Ok so some notes of what the doc said:

1. I am to take ALL dairy and soy products out of my diet. All. No butter, no peanut butter, no yogurt, no cheese, no soy products (tofu, fake chicken) because Aryn could be allergic to it. What does this mean for me? I have to start eating meat. I had a big cry, but I think if I continue with the organic and humanely killed animals, I will be better than going to like McDonald's or something (augh).

2. Aryn breathes really loudly - she always has. My current doctor said it was nothing. This doctor was VERY concerned about it. If after 2 weeks of zero milk/soy products the breathing hasn't gotten better, she is going to prescribe a baby puffer and inhaler that I have to give Aryn every single day because it could be asthma. But she wants to rule out the allergy to milk/soy prior to this.

3. She thinks Aryn has bad acid reflux and has prescribed something for that. Hopefully that helps us.

4. After the 2 weeks of no milk/soy, she is going to refer me to a pediatrician and also to an allergy specialist. She wants Aryn to be tested for ALL allergies (Ryan was allergic to literally EVERYTHING as a baby).

So things are getting figured out. Finally. I cried because it felt so good for someone to take me seriously for once. I've said since Aryn was a couple weeks old that something wasn't right - that she seemed really bothered by ... SOMETHING. And my doctor kept telling me "babies cry" or "babies don't sleep."

Well... hopefully we get this sorted out.

So we're getting feedings figured out. Aryn now eats for about 10 minutes and then I put her in a rocking chair for about 1/2 hour to sooth her tummy. She seems to spit up more when she does tummy time, which is inevitable because the kid cannot stay on her back (so funny!). So keeping her in the chair really helps with that. She does throw up still - a lot - but not near as much as she was.

So enough of the "problems" we're having and onto the good stuff!!!

Aryn has become HILARIOUS. Seriously. She laughs and makes me laugh. Here are some of my favourites:

- when I put her in bed, I put her head at the "head" of the crib, her feet swaddled. Now, when she wakes up and starts playing and cooing, I go in there and the swaddle blanket is kicked off somewhere, she's flipped around a complete 180 and is either kicking the head of the bed, or the wall, or she's on her tummy. So. Funny. And every time I go in there after any kind of sleep, I get the worlds BIGGEST smile.

- Aryn LOVES TO SMILE!! Especially at mommy. We have quite a little connection, the 2 of us. She will be grumpy, then look at me and give me this big, beautiful blue-eyed smile. Melts my heart.

- Aryn has started pinching. It hurts!!!!

- If Bauer is close by at all, Aryn knows where he is and has to watch him. She stares at him and follows him around the room. Bauer still hates her.

- She's a tummy time PRO. However, she looks a bit like a fish out of water with her head, arms and legs in the air and she just balances herself on her tummy. Funniest thing ever. But anyone who sees her comments on how strong she is.

- One more "problem" - Aryn's lady bits are closing. I noticed it, freaked out, and took her to the hospital. The doc looked at it and said that while it's not normal, it is common. He prescribed her some estrogen cream and as of today, it's gotten MUCH better!

- She blows raspberries. All.The.Time. All you hear from her is phbbhbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb. It's hilarious. Then when I do it to her, she giggles and squeals. She's even learned to blow bubbles while blowing raspberries. Hilarious kid.

- She grabs stuff - including your face. When you get your face right down to her, her hands go up and instantly on your face. And she pulls. Ohhh she pulls. She pulls glasses off, she pulls hair, she pulls skin.

Needless to say, the last few weeks have gotten so much more amazing with Aryn. And I can't wait until all of our "stuff" gets figured out!!!

Aryn, mommy and daddy love you soooooooo much!!!!!!

Aryn.... mommy is losing her mind!!!

For 2 nights now, you wake up every 2 hours SCREAMING. No reason for it. Your diaper is fine, you're really not hungry (even though you eat for like 20 seconds then remember you're not hungry), you're not too hot, not too cold, I swaddle you, unswaddle you...... but you scream. SO LOUD. You've never screamed like this before. Even during the day. The only time you EVER scream is when mommy leaves you with daddy for like 20 minutes so she can go get groceries haha.

I have put things that I've worn in your crib with you to calm you down, I've put ocean music on, I've given you dolls, blankets, everything. But you scream. And mommy doesn't know what to do.

I had to leave, so I put you in your bed. Silence. Mommy waited, and played Spider Solitaire for a bit to calm down. Still silence. Mommy poked her head in the room. You were in there, playing, completely flipped around so that your head was on the OPPOSITE side of the crib. Kinda funny. But not really, at 3am (and I've pretty much been up all night!).

Please learn to talk and tell mommy what's going on. Please??

Aryn, you're soooo funny!

This is a typical day.

Step 1: Put Aryn on her back on the floor.
Step 2: Fight with Aryn to keep her on her back (not roll over)
Step 3: Give up the fight, watch her roll over (quickly)
Step 4: Crying, arms flapping, looking like a fish out of water ensues.

Aryn, you are sooooo funny!!

Oh and last night you slept awful! You woke up at 10:30pm, then 11;30pm, then 12am, then 12:48am, then 1:30am, then 2:30am. Then mommy finally swaddled you, you slept until 4am, then 6am, then finally you woke up fully at 8:48am. You have a very tired mommy today. She apologizes for her short fuse with patience!!!

4 Months!!

Today you are 4 months old. Everyday I learn something new about you, and everyday you learn something new about this world. I am loving watching you explore, grow, and learn about all that's around you.

This past month you have changed SO MUCH!! You are grabbing toys, bringing them to your mouth, sucking on things (mostly your hands, much to my chagrin)... you are a pro roller-over, even though you haven't really masted the stomach-to-back roll, you have most certainly mastered the back-to-stomach roll. We can't keep you on your back (which is hilarious, by the way, considering sometimes you get right back on your tummy only to cry, then when we put you back on your back, you giggle!)

For Christmas you got lots of money sent to you so mommy went to Babies R Us and pretty much bought out the store, buying you toys to play with. And what do you like the best? A piece of curly ribbon that I forgot to take off of a basked in your room. You see that ribbon and it's goodbye awesome toys, helloooo ribbon.

You just spotted the ribbon!

Also, you are thisclose to crawling. You get your left knee under you, you scoot yourself forward to whatever toy you're going for (i.e., ribbon) and then you stop. You can't seem to get your right knee under you, but you're doing awesome!!! Mommy is scared because of ALL the stairs in this house.

Such beautiful blue eyes

You are also in LOVE with Bauer, and he still wants nothing to do with you. You scan every room, find him, and stare him down. You reach for him, kick him, grab at him, and he does his best to get as far away from you as possible. Mommy thinks it's hilarious.

Another new thing is how much you LOVE your daddy!!!!!! Everyday Daddy comes home and Mommy tells him you've been a bit of a fuss pot the last couple of hours or so. You take one look at your daddy and it's all smiles and giggles and wiggles for him. You love him. It drives me crazy hahahaha

You have also gained quite a few nicknames this past month:
- Houdini (because there is nothing I can keep you swaddled in without you getting your arms out... yet you refuse to sleep NOT being swaddled...)
- Red Thunder (still)
- Little Red
- Monkey Face
- Love Nugget
- Love Monkey
- Al (that's from Grampa, and he's never actually called you that, he just says he's going to... A for Aryn and L for Linda)

Now you and sleep are still not friends. For the last couple of days, you have been napping like a CHAMP on your stomach - I put you in bed, roll you over so you're kinda on your side/stomach, give you a doll to hug, your soother, turn on your Sleep Sheep and you are OUT. You have always been such an amazing fall-asleeper. But it's the staying-asleep we are having troubles with. Last night mommy tried to let you sleep on your tummy for the night and you were up every.single.hour crying. Mommy would give you your soother, and you'd be out again, only to wake up an hour later when you lost your soother. (FYI, Mommy has never regretted giving you the soother until the last couple of nights haha)

So you're napping right now - for almost an hour now! - on your tummy. Mommy's gonna try bedtime tonight again with you not being swaddled... Lord God, please help us!

This is you sleeping NOT being swaddled... hugging a dolly that used to be mine!! (her name is "Blue Baby")

Aryn, Mommy and Daddy love you soooo much and we can't wait to see what new things you learn this month!!! Thank you for choosing us to be your parents, we are loving every second of it!!

4 Month Weigh: 14.5 pounds!

15 Weeks!

I cannot even begin to explain how different Aryn has become the last week or so. It's like she's a totally different child. She has gone from a whiny, hard-to-please-mama's-girl to a smiley, cooing, giggling, gurgling, easy-to-please-mama's-girl. This kid gives out smiles like they're free balloons. She will smile at anyone, anytime. She kicks, punches, and today - I SWEAR - I even got an actual GIGGLE.

Can I tell you how much I LOVED hearing that giggle?????

It was by far the cutest sound I've ever heard!!!!!!

Aryn didn't gain any weight for about 3 weeks in December and both nurse and doctor told me they were a "little concerned." Upon measuring her, we discovered that the reason for the lack of weight gain is due to the fact that she grew a little over 2 inches. In 3 weeks.

*Insert jaw-dropping-shocked smiley here*

So now Aryn is a little over 25 pounds, she's 13 pounds, 15.75 ounces, and she is a rolling freak! Example: the other day I put her on the floor in our bedroom so I could go have a quick shower. I come out - no Aryn. I run down the 3 small stairs in our bedroom to discover her near the door. How did she get there? Did she crawl? Did she hitch a ride on Bauer?

She rolled.

She has mastered rolling from her back to her stomach (you can't keep the kid on her back anymore!) and is still figuring out the back-to-stomach roll but she has done it a few times and I'm certain by the end of her 3rd month she'll have it figured out.

And when Red Thunder is on the move... WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!

What else has happened...

New Years was pretty uneventful. We spent New Year's at the farm, so that consisted of us driving back to the farm. Aryn is a pro traveler and I'm proud of her for that! On New Year's Eve we went to Lethbridge for the day, went bowling, then to the mall, then to the Keg for supper. Aryn was passed around to everyone at bowling, kicked and laughed when we got back to Auntie Karrie's after the mall, played on the floor at the Keg and then proceeded to have a bit of a meltdown in the bathroom at the Keg. I mean, an actual temper-tantrum meltdown. From a 3-month old. It was funny. 2 strangers in the bathroom tried to help me calm her down, to no avail. I think we just pissed her off even more. Finally, Ryan and I left the restaurant, put her in the vehicle, and after about 30 seconds of driving - OUT like a light.

Speaking of sleep, this has become quite an issue for us the past few weeks. Now, I worry that sometimes it sounds like I'm complaining that she doesn't sleep. And when we were trying to conceive I HATED it when people with kids complained because, really, all I wanted was for a baby - sleep deprivation or not. So please, understand that I am NOT complaining.

Aryn... when you read this in a few years, I hope you don't feel bad, but... you are an awful sleeper. During the day, you nap (lately, instead of napping for 45 minutes after every 1 hour of being awake, you've been going down at about 2 hours, and napping for about 30-45 minutes - NOT swaddled!). But at night... you fall asleep at about 8pm or so, then wake up at 1:30am or so, for no particular reason, I either feed you or just give you back your soother. Then you're up at 2:30, then at 4:30, then maybe at 5:30, which is when I feed you again assuming you're hungry, then you wake up again at 8:30am. Last night you woke up every.forty.five.minutes.

I've tried the Woombie. I've tried the tight swaddle. I've tried swaddling you with TWO blankets. I've tried the kiddopotamus wraps. I've tried NOT swaddling. I've tried swaddling just your feet. I've tried just swaddling your arms. I've tried tying your hands together. I've tried putting you on your tummy. Your back. EVERYTHING.

You + me + sleep = a very tired, and sometimes very grumpy mommy.

But even at my most frustrated time, I go into your room after you've woken up and there you are, with the BIGGEST, most beautiful smile I've ever seen. And honey..... you are going to get away with sooooo much with that beautiful, beautiful smile.

See her sucking on those fingers?? That's her new thing. Super cute, but super frustrating haha

I want time to stand still. Sleep deprivation or not, I don't care. You are changing too fast. The first 3 months, I was actually excited for things to change - for you to smile more, to be more happy, to go to other people. Now that it's here... I want to stop time. I want to soak it all in, cherish it, and not let a single second escape me.

But I know I can't do that. But ohhh baby I want to!!!
